This program is by invitation only.

The curriculum involves 800 hours of student instructor training to satisfy New Hampshire state requirements, and requires the applicant to be a licensed cosmetologist. The course educates a prospective student instructor to address the needs of students in the classroom and the clinic floor. Prospective teachers learn to utilize a system of forward-focused thinking and front-end coaching. By learning the methods of teaching cosmetology, the prospective teachers learn to engage students in the learning process and stimulate the discovery process with visuals, music, and/or hands-on activities.

*Graduates are prepared to become entry-level instructors.

This program is taught in English. Textbooks and Course Materials are only offered in the English Language.

 

Instructor Training Course Overview

Course Hours: 800 clock hours

The student instructor training course is divided into three designations: Observation Theory, Psychology and Methodology, and Student Teaching.

Instructor Training Course Outline

Your time in the Paul Mitchell the School Portsmouth instructor training course will be divided into three designations:

  1. Observation Theory: This section focuses on learning by observing classroom and clinic floor instruction.
  2. Psychology and Methodology: These classes focus on the theory of teaching, using Milady’s Master Educator textbook, including weekly tests.
  3. Student Teaching: You will learn to write lesson plans and do actual teaching from your lesson plans. There will be a practical teaching evaluation of your teaching skills.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTION

800 Clock Hours

Subject Course Description
Cosmetology curriculum refresher This course will review all aspects of the curriculum program.
Preparation for classroom activities including but not limited to This course teaches how to prepare for classroom activities. This also includes choice of teaching materials, classroom setup, topic and subject matter, student assignments, materials and supplies, and record keeping.
Presentation of Information including, but not limited to This course teaches effective presentation skills. This also includes lectures, demonstrations, questions and answers, project methods, and discussions.
Application of practice including This course teaches how to implement and practice teaching. This also includes classroom management and client relations.
Evaluation by instructor-trainee of student’s understanding and performance This course teaches how to evaluate students' understanding and performance. This also includes written and practical assessments and communication skills.
Facial and waxing including contra-indications This course teaches facial manipulations, including chemical procedure treatments and cosmetics, skin types, waxing, and makeup application.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE

The following tests and grading procedures are incorporated during the student’s 800 hour course:

  1. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each assigned theory exam. Theory exams cover a review of Milady’s Master Educator Student Course Book.
  2. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each classroom or clinic evaluation. Classroom and Clinic Evaluations cover practical application in a classroom or clinic environment.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

The instructor training 800 hour course are provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.
